Local MP Martin Horwood speaking to congregation at Bethesda Methodist Church Cheltenham to celebrate the presentation of their Second National Eco-Award. Bethesda is a recognised Fairtarde church and one of only 10 churches in England to have been given a 2nd eco-award. Highlights of the church environmental programme include a wide ranging recycling scheme, a weekly Traidgreen Stall, a low energy lamp distribution programme and support for an AIDs orphanage in South Africa. Bethesda is currently considering the installation of photo voltaic panels (PV) on the roof and establishing its own carbon offsetting fund. It is also extensively involved in encouraging other churches to sign up to Eco-Congregation. A wind turbine made by one of the church members can be seen in the background.
