Commission4mission aims to encourage the commissioning and placing of contemporary art in churches, as a means of fundraising for charities and as a mission opportunity for the churches involved
Artists who join commission4mission are profiled on our webpage and are able to participate in exhibitions. Their work is promoted to potential commissioners and they have the opportunity to network with other artists who share similar interests and motivations.
Churches benefit by access to a growing pool of Christian artists available for commissions. A range of work can be viewed prior to commissioning. Our programme of events and exhibitions provide opportunities to meet with artists and explore Christian Art.
Our commissions include work at All Saints Hutton, Dagenham Park Church of England School, St Edmund's Tyseley, St John's Seven Kings, St Luke's Chapel (Queens Hospital Romford), St Paul's Goodmayes and St Peter's Harold Wood. We have exhibited at a wide variety of locations including Chelmsford Cathedral, The Crypt Gallery at St Martin-in-the-Fields, The Strand Gallery and the Tokarska Gallery. Our exhibitions have featured in the Pentecost Festival and the Barking Episcopal Area Arts Festival. We have created an Art Trail for the Barking Episcopal Area and, together with CANA and Veritasse, created the 'Run with the Fire' digital art exhibition for the 2012 Olympic year.
