I would like to apologise to everyone living in the United Kingdom. As I write this, the rain is pouring down and the last few days have provided some very unseasonal weather. It is June and we should be basking in sunshine, however, I fear I may have had something to do with the current downpour, hence my need to say sorry. You see, last week, I bought myself some walking sandals, the sun was out, it was the beginning of summer and I thought I would get plenty of wear out of them. But now it’s raining, so I am sorry if my purchase has caused the downpour.
Of course that is both a little pessimistic and also a little superstitious. How could there possibly be a connection between the weather and my order from Amazon? And yet we often find ourselves making such connections. Am I the only one who has stopped myself making one of those deals with God type of prayers?
Perhaps pessimism, especially for the British and definitely with regard to the weather, is in our genes. Pessimism can also be seen in Elijah. One of this week’s Lectionary readings sees Elijah with a less than positive outlook on things, and this is after a great victory for God by the prophet. The high of victory is followed by the despair of becoming a hunted man and the belief that he was alone. The perspective that Elijah had was changed when God explained the bigger picture.
3 Free Resources Each Week Just For You
I know that buying my sandals has nothing to do with the current weather. There is a bigger picture that even the best meteorologists struggle with. It is the bigger picture that we are involved with when we tell others the Good News of Jesus. If you are based in the UK, and this has nothing to do with the weather, and are involved with leading worship you could be getting 3 FREE resources every week from The Seed. Sign up for the basic subscription and you’ll be on your way to being resourced to tell others the bigger picture. If you're not in the UK, you will get better weather, and despite not being able to get the free subscription offer, you will pay 20% less for a subscription, as you won't pay UK Value added tax.
Need more resources? Then you can buy them as you need them, or, you can take out one of our paid subscriptions that give you more credits each week at a reduced price per credit.
I’m off to check the weather forecast, I think I see a break in the clouds...
