There is a great deal of good advice for the Church and for individual Christians in these readings; advice to foster the qualities that God most wants in his people; advice to shun worldliness. They include wise words of Paul warning against sectarianism and spiritual pride. Each week there is a reading from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, containing his timeless teaching that was to shape the emergent Church. Much of what Jesus has to say is personally challenging and needs to be taken seriously, however “old fashioned” it may sound to modern ears. The way to full Christian discipleship and the solution for Christian disunity are here, if only we will humbly follow what we read.
