At evening one approaches – a hymn for Good Friday evening
At evening one approaches
Jesus' body to claim
Unknown, he follows the Messiah
Joseph his name
In sorrow he sees the body
The story of his pain
Stripes, wounds and crown are terrors
Their horrors plain
The dusk comes - he must finish
Before he sees night's gloom
He gently takes Christ's body
Seeks his own tomb
Verses 4-5 follow
(Tune: St Cuthbert – HP 312, Our blest Redeemer, ere he breathed)
