Description

A Processional Eucharistic prayer for Easter Day

This was originally used on Easter Day when the church had an almost life-sized empty tomb set up near the front. The prayer linked together different aspects of the Easter story by having sections led from different locations, as indicated. However, the prayer could be led throughout from the table if desired. At the ‘Hallelujah’ this was sung, using the Caribbean setting ‘Halle-, halle-, halle- lujah’ (in the Wild Goose publication Many and Great); other simple sung Alleluias could be used.

THE PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS
The offerings of the people are presented. Bread and wine are brought to the table (or if already on the table are uncovered).
The bread is lifted in the sight of the people with the words:

God has made all good things.
The seed which is sown;
the wheat which is harvested;
the flour which is ground;
the bread which is baked,

and which will be for us the bread of life.

The cup is lifted in the sight of the people with the words:
God has made all good things.
The vine which grows;
the grapes which are pressed;
the yeast which ferments; the wine which is drunk,

and which will be for us the cup of salvation.

THE THANKSGIVING
All stand.
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

Today of all days it is right to thank you God, (From the table)
because today is the day when you gave Jesus new life.
He had been shut in the tomb—
but you threw back the stone.
He had been sleeping the sleep of death—
but you woke him to a new morning and a new world.
Hallelujah!

Today of all days it is right to thank you God, (From the empty tomb)
because today is the day when angels said, ‘You have nothing to fear.’
The disciples had cowered behind locked doors—
but you brought them out into the open.
