Production notes

Tone of conversation starts friendly, and becomes more tense and irritated as time goes on.  As the meeting breaks up, although the words are polite, the tone and body language indicate that everyone is upset.  A convincing, but not soppy, mime is needed to move from this to reconciliation.

A sketch contrasting church life with the unity envisaged in Ephesians 1v1-16.

Church terminology is Methodist, but easily adaptable for other contexts.

Cast

Amanda Alan

Sue Emily (Amanda’s daughter)

Robert Julie (Robert’s daughter)

Setting

A church meeting room.  Table, 6 chairs, pad of paper, school books.  Bible on

lectern or in its normal place for reading.

Script

Amanda & Sue enter from opposite sides and sit down

Sue - Hello Amanda – all well?

Amanda - When I catch up with myself.  It’s just one job after another.  What are we doing tonight?

Sue - Planning the church seminar on Unity in the Body of Christ.

Amanda - Why do they think we need a seminar on unity?  The church seems quite united to me – at

least it is since Christopher and the public school clique moved to the parish church.

Sue - And that noisy Viali1 family left.

Amanda - Yes – what happened to them?

Sue  [unconcerned] I’m not sure – I think they just stopped going to church.

Amanda - Who else is coming tonight?

Sue - Robert … and Alan.

Amanda - Oh no.  I haven’t recovered yet from being on the fete committee with Robert.  It’s amazing

how he avoids getting any of the messy jobs to do.  Alan’s new, isn’t he?  What’s he like?

Sue - You’re not likely to forget he’s new.  Always got some bright idea that they did at his church

in Sussex.  He’ll probably want us to set up a video link with them for the seminar.

Robert & Alan enter together, Julie trailing behind
