Inquisitive animals with sweet breaths of hay
As they inhaled your milky perfume.
Their earthy smells pungent and raw.
Emmanuel – but this was really down to earth.

Mary, proud mother, her pains over.
Eyes taking in the very essence of you.
Her firstborn son, yet even now wondering at
