Needs a narrator (N), Abraham (A), Jesus (J) and one or more helpers to select
and direct volunteers. Numbers show the sequence for men, letters for women.
N: [from lectern]
We are reading from Matthew chapter 1 – and will need some help. [Helpers] will
choose suitable people. If they ask you, please come forward and stand at the
front where you are shown. Itʼs quite safe – you will not be asked to do or say
anything.
[Helpers get ready – eg one in each aisle, alternately ï¬nding volunteer.]
N: The genealogy of Jesus Christ, son of David, son of Abraham.
[Abraham comes forward. He will then help direct the “volunteers” to right place
in line, while also making comments as shown in italics.]
N: Abraham1 was the father of Isaac2,
First man selected by helper sent forward to stand next to Abraham.
A: I nearly killed you – but God stopped me.
N: Isaac of Jacob3,
A: He was one of twins – double trouble.
Second man selected sent forward to stand next to Isaac.
N: Jacob of Judah4 and his brothers,
Third men sent forward by helper(s) – could also add boys as younger brothers.
A: Twelve of them – well done boy!
