Description
Here is a sketch between two enthusiastic but inexperienced gardeners who have just come to see the fruits of their first years Harvest.
Short Extract:
Bill and Al are down at the allotment in early September thinking what to begin pulling up.
Al: Ay Bob, you know these seeds we planted in the Spring over here, should they of come up by now?
Bill: Well they should of but I can't see any sign of anything can you?
Al: Well no, I know we haven't been doing this for long and we're a bit inexperienced but you'd of thought there'd be something wouldn't you.
Bill: Perhaps we've planted them at the wrong time of year.
Al: Or we've planted them in the wrong kind of soil.
Bill: Yes it's a bit odd, you'd of thought there'd be some sign of growth even if a few weeds.
Al: well let's go over what we did.
Bill: well first of all we dug over the soil.
Al: then we put in the manure, which usually helps. It's a bit smelly but it does help.
Bill: then we dug a narrow trench in a straight line.
Al: I remember doing that because we got out a piece of string and pegged it out at both ends and it was defiantly straight.
Bill: Then what did we do?
Al: well I remember taking them out of the packet and spacing them out about 12 inches apart.
Bill: Oh yes then we covered them back over, whilst leaving the string in place.
Al: we then watered them thoroughly and made sure they had a good soaking.
Bill: We then got some labels and placed them at either end of the trench that we had just filled in.
Al: yes I remember clearly writing the labels out and placing them in the right place.
Bill: Ali exactly what did you write on the labels?
Al: I distinctly remember writing Aniseed balls.
