In the clear light of a crisp Autumn morning the last rose of summer offers up its final valedictory display. From bud to bloom to this, the last moments before the petals fall. Although worn and weatherbeaten, the flowers maintain their shape confidently, vibrantly, beautifully to the end. There is such quiet dignity here. Not so much a sense of loss as of incalculable gain, a celebration of life itself, fully lived.
