Easter 5A
Nicanor - That you even know my name
My mother used to wonder if I would grow to be a man of notability, my father
encouraged me to be a man of hard work. I left them one day. I set out as a man
fallen, a man who could no longer hold his head up. I had disappointed my par-
ents, I was not the Nicanor they had hoped I would be.
I headed for the city, the noise of people to be lost in, the preachers who would
save me, and the temple that may cleanse me eventually. I met a man who told
me he was free, he told me he had been forgiven, told me I could be free too. I
told him I had not the money for the sacrifices, but I hoped one day I could feel
that freedom. He told me I needed no money, he told me I just needed to come. I
had nothing to lose but myself, and so I followed that man. He lead me to the
house of the freed-men, he lead me to Stephen.
