Drama/monologue: Passing judgement

Proper 19 Year A
Romans 14: 1-12

Here. Do you see Jane over there? Do you know what she is? You’ll never guess in
a million years. She‘s a vegetarian!
I told you you’d be surprised. I mean, she doesn’t look any different to the rest of us,
does she? I always thought vegetarians dressed in long frocks and looked a bit like
fortune tellers – you know, the ones you see in caravans at fairs. ‘Cross my palm
with silver,’ and all that kind of stuff. Jane looks pretty normal I think, but you can
never tell.
All I know is that she’s never cooked a joint of meat in her whole life. Can you
imagine it? No roast beef and Yorkshires, no lamb chops or bacon butties. Not even
an occasional sausage sandwich. It’s just not right. How can you be normal if you
haven’t tried fish and chips, or a prawn cocktail? It’s not good for you. I’m sure her
health must be suffering and she’s bringing her children up in the same way...
