with no place to stay
and a crisis coming on them imminently.
Doors and windows spilled light and noise,

but none would take the time to recognize their need.
Only one hard-pressed pub landlord
took two minutes from his business
to point them to an outbuilding at the back,
where they could get in from the cold
and attend to their emergency.
