Description

The Day we climbed the mountain.
This poem was written as a bit of fun to support an All Age worship service. Although the mountain which is referred to is Kinder Scout, in the Peak District of Derbyshire, the name of any local mountain can be used instead. The theme was “Finding your way” or “The Christian Walk” and the points it relates to are:
1. The need to plan ahead.
2. The Bible as God’s map for our life’s walk, with prayer as our compass.
The way Jesus used prayer and scripture in planning his ministry whilst praying in the wilderness is clearly relevant here.

The day we went up Kinder was sunny and bright,
So off we went, travelling light.
Hot and sticky soon we became,
Boy this was a good game,
Off came Dads shirt without any shame
And on we went ‘til near the top we came.
Soon we needed a serious rest,
So dad lay down showing his bare chest,
Hungry and hot, we ate with zest
Then fell asleep as you might have guessed.
Cold and damp soon we became,
This wasn’t such a good game.
