Prayers of Intercession for the Second Sunday in Lent
These prayers were written to go alongside a service for the Second Sunday in Lent, based on the gospel passage in Luke 13: 31-35. I was particularly struck by the words in verse 34: ‘How many times have I wanted to put my arms round all your people’ and have used that as the inspiration for the response.
Loving Jesus, whose desire is to hold all people close to you, we bring before you those situations and people whose needs are utmost in our minds and hearts. We pray for your world, fractured by war, conflict and division. As we have read in today’s gospel passage about Jesus’ relationship with Jerusalem, we pray for all people in the Middle East. We pray for communities hurting, communities grieving, communities divided and for those working desperately for peace and reconciliation.
Loving God,
We pray you would gather us all in your arms.
We pray for those who hunger. Those who hunger for food and water. Those who hunger for an end to corrupt practices which hamper the delivery of aid and care for those in need. Those who hunger for a safe place to stay, education for their children and basic medical supplies.
Loving God,
We pray you would gather us all in your arms.
