Everyone knows the story of the woman who poured perfume over the feet of Jesus and wiped it away with her hair.
Everyone knows that someone – a man - thought it was disgraceful that this should happen in public and strongly protested about it.
Everyone knows that Jesus accepted the gift gratefully and commended her action to the roomful of disapproving people.
Everyone knows that Jesus proclaimed that her gift was a gesture of extravagant concern and that she had every right to make it.
Some people recognize that there are four versions of the story, one in each gospel.
Some people recognize that the characters and settings are not the same in all the stories.
Some people believe that the woman is Mary Magdalene, although there is no direct evidence of that in any version.
Some people recognize that not all the stories have the same ending.
