Reflection/Meditation: Every parent
Every parent recognizes the surprise of finding out that their child has grown into an individual person with a mind, will and personality that may bear no resemblance whatsoever to the parents that created the baby they cherished and nurtured.
Every parent recognizes that feeling of bewilderment that so many years have passed that the child has been replaced by an adult eager to build a life that will not necessarily involve the parents in creating and maintaining that lifestyle.
Every parent recognizes that sense of amazement and pride, or shock and horror at the achievements, or failures, of that newly independent individual who had once relied so heavily on parents for support.
And though parents may often be astonished at the behaviour of their offspring they are usually tolerant enough and care enough to accept that the child is now following a path that has been chosen and parents must learn to recognize that the freedom to choose and the direction to follow are now firmly in the hands of a fully-fledged adult.
