Reflection: Special occasion
We were visiting Edinburgh and couldn’t understand why one particular street was so
crowded with people. Everyone seemed to be moving towards the pavement edge
where they were kept back by barriers and all were excited. We had no wish to get
caught in the crowd, but were curious about what was happening, so we asked a
family who were anxious to get their children as near to the front as possible.
“It’s a royal procession,” they said. “Any minute now there’ll be a lot of carriages and
they’re heading for a special event in the cathedral. We’d like the children to see it
all, if they can.”
Their enthusiasm was infectious, so we decided to stay for a while to witness this
grand event.
