Such malicious intertwining of fresh hostility around old enmities reinforces the animosity, renews the hatred and reinvigorates the conflict which this cruelly barbed fence represents. The poppies' silent, grief-laded, proxy witness challenges those for whom this is an acceptable political outcome. Because they did not die for this. Pristine barbs of ill-intent besmirch their name and dishonour their sacrifice.
