Was it operation three or operation four? Sometimes I lose track, there’s been a few. Strange as it may seem it was an operation that
cleared a path back to faith for me. A particularly difficult operation when it looked as if I was going to die and yet one where I became acutely conscious of a certain strength within, something on another level altogether. It’s hard to describe it except to say that it was a sense that transforms, intensifies and clarifies everything.
When I was well enough I asked to see the hospital chaplain who gave me communion. It was a step on a journey back towards faith. The
imagery of the body and blood in the Eucharist is especially powerful when you or others around you are suffering....
