Sometimes the music in his head
produced discordant harmony
with notes that clashed with common sense,
Saul's action strained credulity.
Then David's music sent him mad,
no longer soothed his savage mind
he ranted, roared his words of hate,
he paced about, his rage was blind
Saul's loathing brought his spear to hand,
but David knew to duck and dive,
the weapon clattered to the floor,
it seemed God helped him to survive.
