Reflection accompanying image 'Signposting Advent'
Whilst taking advantage of a brief period of free time during a recent four day meeting in Northampton I walked through nearby parkland and came out onto a housing estate. Set back from the road a pub occupied a corner plot on a junction, next to a bus stop. Called 'The Pioneer' both its name and the sign were striking.
We talk a lot these days about Pioneer Ministry and this sign seemed to be a prophetic encouragement to engage with the estate and its people in ways which bring the presence and promise of Jesus alive. The phrase 'the pioneering spirit' says so much about the need for bold and creative approaches to the challenges we face as we attempt to reconnect gospel and contemporary culture.
