Sometimes the things we wish for
don't turn out as we hope,
our dreams become like nightmares,
we wonder if we'll cope.
We thought we had avoided
the judgment now our due,
but God discerns our motives,
the things we speak or do.

The light that we expected
reveals each errant thought,
our eyes are fully opened,
the picture fully caught.
And here we are confronted
by good and bad as well,
the life that we are living
makes heaven, and our hell.
