Strange choices
Strange people God chooses sometimes.
Not usually famous people; very rarely, rich people;
not necessarily beautiful; not always religious;
sometimes uneducated; often those that others disregard;
usually very down-to earth characters.
Was that why a teenage girl was faced with unmarried motherhood,
as her husband-to-be had to cope with a pregnancy
in which he had played no part?
Was that why the wife of a provincial priest
became pregnant long after her natural time and in strange circumstances?
Was that why the two of them met,
to compare experiences and talk of the inevitable consequences?
Was that why Mary poured out a song of praise and thankfulness
straight from her heart
and that song has never been forgotten?
