Old Portuguese house in the ancient garrison of Fort Jesus now a museum in Mombasa Kenya. Located on the edge of a coral ridge overlooking the Old Port of Mombasa, Fort Jesus was built by the Portuguese in 1593 to protect their trading interests. It was designed by an Italian Jao Batisto Cairato Chief Architect for Portuguese possessions in the East Africa. The Fort is now a museum and reagarded as one of the best examples of 16th century Portuguese military architecture.
