Genesis 31:1-29
Money divides people from one another. A news item this week related how a twenty-five-year feud had been simmering in a particular family. When the father died, with the mother’s collusion his son concealed his father’s ownership of a number of properties and the existence of a will dividing his estate among the son and his two sisters. It was, said the news, “a betrayal of biblical proportions.” After five years, the two daughters discovered the deception, and they fought for twenty-five years to acquire their share of the estate. In an affidavit, one of them said, “The conspiracy to deny us our inheritance destroyed my family, broke my heart and left me with scars that I have painfully struggled with and have not fully overcome even now. . . .
