There was a story in the news recently about a man who was reversing his car in his drive and accidentally ran over his child who was playing there. Another story related how a mother who had apparently been drinking and taking drugs drove the wrong way onto a freeway, collided with another car, and killed herself, her children, and some other children who were traveling with her. A few months earlier in the summer there was a story about a man who left his daughter in the car when it was very hot; the child died. Any parent’s blood runs cold on hearing such stories because we know it could have been us. Just one apparently simple act of stupidity issues in a tragedy with which a person lives for the rest of his or her life...
