Trusting God with Your Anger
Psalm 68: 19-35


In a day or two I am to lecture on the Psalms and our spirituality, and I shall talk about the way psalms are designed to feed and shape our praise, prayer, and thanksgiving. Last night as I was finalizing the lecture, I realized I had made a mistake; I had included nothing about the violent and angry side to the psalms. I recalled a previous occasion when I gave such a lecture and said nothing about that feature of them, and this anger was the first issue someone raised in the question time afterward. What struck me on that occasion was that this person was an unhappy-looking, heavy pastor who (I immediately thought this but didn’t say it) looked like someone who had turned his anger in on himself.
