It is not difficult to draw out from what has already been said the main lines of Pharisaic theology, bringing into brief and I hope sharp focus the larger and longer treatment in The New Testament and the People of God chapters 9 and 10. Granted that Jewish thinkers do not characteristically write systematic theologies, the best categories available for understanding their thinking about God and the world are monotheism, election and eschatology.
