Description
A short poem, with both rhyme and rhythm, which makes an important point and stimulates further thought about church attendance and true worship.
Poem: True Worship (Going to Church?)
Lost in the mists of time, we changed from being seen as those with a particular lifestyle arising from a living relationship with God, to those who attend a weekly ceremony in a weird building. This can infect our thinking too and lead us to question the value of our weekly attendance, particularly when our expectations are not met. The following poem reflects the way I, and surely many others, feel about this.
…........................................................................................................................
The Hymns were good this week.
We all enjoyed a good sing.
But my heart was hard and empty,
No inspiration did they bring.
The prayers were meaningful and apt.
They were surely spirit led.
But my heart was hard and empty,
Not what I would have said.
The sermon was inspirational.
Interesting and uplifting, some felt.
But my heart was hard and empty,
And it did not melt.
