As a result of a routine physical exam I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. Quite likely it would not develop into something actually life-threatening before I died of something else, and I might have decided to do nothing about it, but the discovery happened just after I had met, fallen in love with, and proposed to someone. Before this happened, I might have felt that I had had a good life of a reasonable length and could appropriately make way for someone else (though ideally I would like to complete the Old Testament for Everyone series). I now had reason for revising that view. In effect, we started praying that God would not abandon my life to Sheol, and we agreed that I would have the relevant medical procedure so that whatever I eventually die of, it will not be this condition...
