Which is the best movie of all time? This is a really difficult question, for both The Empire
Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi have their merits. As a Star Wars fan, no other movies
come close – although both the original Star Wars: A new hope and the latest Revenge of the Sith
would be runners-up.
The unfolding of the Star Wars saga has happened over my movie-going lifetime. The story
gripped me as a 13 year old and has stayed with me ever since. Of course, there will always be
those sad people dressed as Darth Vader standing somewhat self-consciously in the movie queue.
Most people, however, including myself, simply looked forward to another part of the story of
how Anakin Skywalker was going to turn into the evil man with the mask and severe asthma
problem. This is the big question it asks: ‘How is goodness seduced into becoming evil?’
As a Christian theologian, I was also interested to see the role of the force in this movie.
