A prayer prompted by Candlemas and the presentation in the Temple, which seeks to reclaim some of the imagery associated with the ceremony of ‘churching’
Midwife God,
we thank you for the miracle of birthing,
for the purity of new life,
innocence unmarked by scars and stories.
We thank you for safe delivery,
for bringing mother and child [OR, Name(s)]
through the mess and the risk,
the fierce pain of pushing new life into the world.
