John 8.12-20

As we turned the corner, we saw a large yellow sign beside the road. The two words that jumped out at us were ‘ACCIDENT’ and ‘WITNESS’.

It appeared there had been a road accident at that dangerous corner the previous Friday night. Some people had been badly hurt, and a considerable amount of expensive damage had been done. And the police didn’t know who was responsible. They were appealing for more witnesses to come forward. Had anyone seen anything? Did anyone know anything? It was no good asking the people who were hurt. They were bound to say it wasn’t their fault. They were bound to blame someone else. If the case was to go ahead – if truth was to come out, and justice was to be done – the police would need more witnesses, and independent ones at that...
