Galatians 3.15-22


‘It’s what he would have wanted.’ How often has that phrase been used to settle an argument, when someone has died and the family are trying to organize the funeral, or the disposal of property, or the appropriate way to bring up orphaned children. Family disputes about ‘what so-and-so would have wanted’ can sometimes be as difficult as disputes about the inheritance itself. All clergy know the frustration of trying to organize a service which includes the music, readings and other bits and pieces which the deceased ‘would have liked’. How much more satisfactory, as the lawyers keep reminding people, to have it all set out in black and white so there’s no question...
