We were there too: Women at Pentecost

We were there too, in the upper room, and we were praying alongside the men, and though history renders us mostly nameless we too received the glorious gift of God's Spirit. Her wind and fire touched us, filled us and transformed us too…

Some of us received healing gifts, whilst others were stirred to speak, and though we did not often command large crowds, many would come to listen to our stories;  some of us were leaders, teachers and preachers and although tradition often chooses to ignore us and to deny our voices a hearing, the fact remains that it is true. Remember Mary, and Mary, Martha, Lydia, Dorcas and Phoebe… Lois and Eunice, and others besides….

We were there too, and with the gift came an assurance that one day all would change, that in years to come our sisters would be set free to preach and teach and minister without hindrance or criticism. We prayed for you our sisters; and we wonder if as you read this whether that day has come or is yet to be…

We were there too, and if you doubt it then we urge you, hear our voices and pray, for we were there too…
