Noah Was a Carpenter
1. Noah was a carpenter. He built a barn of wood
And sealed it up with pitch all 'round against the mighty flood.
But when the firmament opened wide and fearsome rains did fly,
'Twas faith that bore him on the waves until the land was dry.
'Twas faith that bore him on the waves until the land was dry.
2. Aaron was a carpenter. A box of wood and gold
He built to carry on the way, the flinty law to hold.
But when the Israelites came to Jordan, bound for the promised land,
'Twas hope that pushed the stream aside at Joshua’s command.
'Twas hope that pushed the stream aside at Joshua’s command.
3. Solomon was a carpenter. He built the temple high
Of cedars brought from Lebanon and lapis lazuli.
But when the whirlwind of passion made the beams and pillars groan,
'Twas in the wise and honest heart that God sat on his throne.
'Twas in the wise and honest heart that God sat on his throne.
