There is a Deeper Loneliness

There is a deeper loneliness
that hides in every heart;
a cosmic, awesome emptiness;
a thirst that drives apart.

We search and seek for friendship,
among each friendly face,
we hunt for perfect partnership,
and intimate embrace.

And all these things are beautiful,
but incomplete at best,
and though our hopes are wonderful
our hearts are not at rest.

There is a deeper union,
that reaches far and wide,
a mystical communion,
a quenching deep inside. .
