We come then to the close of this book. In the first four chapters my aim was to help you imagine Jesus’ world, his home and the journeys he took with his family from Nazareth to Jerusalem to celebrate the pilgrim festival of the Passover. I then sought to set in context Jesus’ radical call for his followers to love their enemies, and included a range of more contemporary perspectives about this challenging teaching. My sympathies lie with Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr, who were committed to taking his words seriously. But I included other voices because I want to acknowledge that they do seem hopelessly idealistic in the ears of people like Joseph Klausner who have experienced atrocity and terrible injustice...
