A modern interpretation of the parable of the unjust judge and persistent widow.
Three characters - written for women, but easily adapted.

A fair result, by Kit Walkham
Characters: Melissa (celebrity), Sandy (showjumper),
Janine (reporter).
Could be adapted for any or all to be male.

At start, Melissa is at lectern, addressing congregation as if they are a school assembly. Janine is on front row taking notes. During Melissa’s speech, Sandy enters from back, holding placard saying “I was robbed”. As she walks down the aisle she offers (selected) people a petition to sign. The other two ignore her.

Melissa In conclusion, thank you again for inviting me to your speech day. Enjoy your summer holidays, and come back next term determined to beat your classmates – by whatever means necessary. That’s how I started – and some of you may hope to rise to fame and influence. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Janine leads applause, then gets up to interview Melissa as she leaves lectern.

Janine Dame Melissa, Janine Jarvis from the local radio station. Could I have a few words…? Your advice to young people today is ..

Melissa Look after yourself – no-one else will. If that means bending the rules: well, who’s going to notice these days?
