Description

The Gospel according to John

The Fourth Gospel shares features of the genre of ancient biography with the Synoptic Gospels (size, structure, narrative focus on one individual). Like the Synoptics, John’s Gospel constitutes an ancient “life” of Jesus. It also has in common with the other canonical Gospels the core gospel story they tell, a story in which Jesus makes his public debut in connection with the ministry of John the Baptist, calls disciples, engages in a mission of miracles and teaching, faces opposition, enters Jerusalem in a procession, and is arrested,
tried, executed, and raised from the dead…
