Opening prayer suitable for meetings or worship

Deuteronomy 26:1-11


Creator God, we thank you
for giving to your creatures
such a splendid and diverse world,
with its rhythm of summer and winter,
springtime and harvest;
a world capable of feeding and sustaining all,
if only we would live as you want us to do.
We praise you for its beauty and generosity:
for its wonders that speak of your majesty and love,
and for the food you provide for our needs and our enjoyment.
L: For all your loving gifts to us: R: we praise and thank you.

Saviour God, we thank you
that you walk the earth among us like a sower,
flinging onto the soil of our lives the seed of your gospel;
offering us new and productive lives in you
if we will open ourselves to respond to your call.
We praise you for the way in which you tend us,
showering us with love, forgiveness and faith,
warming us with your smile, as you encourage us to grow.
We offer the first-fruits of our lives to you,
in our worship and our Christian living.
