Opening prayer suitable for meetings or worship
Isaiah 2:1-5
(Have three candles ready to light)
Loving God, we long for peace
yet we often find it impossible to sustain.
We long for peace in our hearts and lives;
the peace your presence alone can bring.
But we are afraid to surrender ourselves to you,
to let go and fall back on your loving arms,
and discover the peace of trusting faith.
Light first candle
We long for peace in our families,
in the communities in which we live,
and among the people with whom we work.
But everywhere there is suspicion and strife
and we find it hard to resist an argument.
