Proper 7

Job 38: 1-11
2 Corinthians 6: 1-13
Mark 4: 35-41

The reading from Job and the reading from the Gospel seem to have one vision, which is of the colossal and unquestionable power of God. In Job, God finally rounds on Job’s so-called friends, with their endless quasi-theological advice about what has caused Job’s sufferings. At last, God speaks for himself. He does not deign to explain himself, since it is clear that his hearers are too stupid to understand, even if it was God’s concern to make himself comprehensible...
