The Younger Again Ahead of the Elder
Genesis 47:27-48:22

I have known more than one grandfather who made a nuisance of himself by whipping out a folder of photographs of his grandchildren at the slightest provocation, to inflict them on other people. I rushed to buy a plane ticket, and I have a vivid memory of taking the baby for walk in his stroller as I had taken his father for such walks. That older memory was so vivid that it seemed to have happened yesterday. So was I John and was this my son, or was I my son, and is this his son? It provoked another memory. When my wife and I married, it was really our parents’ special occasion, and our children belonged to them, too (a generation later, our being six thousand miles away at least protected our son and daughter-in-law from that)...
