My stepdaughter and her husband spend their lives seeking to make known the plight of Darfuri refugees in Chad; they make dangerous visits there from time to time. They tell horrifying stories about the way the Sudanese government treated the Darfuri people when they were still in Sudan. In this connection the Sudan president, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, has been indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. The ICC’s chief prosecutor in effect accused Bashir of running a four-year genocide campaign against the Darfuri people in western Sudan, killing tens of thousands and driving millions to flee their homes. What can one do for such people and against such an oppressor? Our family involvement with the question led my wife and me to start praying the Psalms on behalf of the Darfuri and against Bashir...
