God, who is guest at every wedding,
seal us together as one.

It is evening and a beautiful young woman steps lightly down the steps to the well, then, a few minutes later, reappears, a pitcher of water on her shoulder, careful not to spill a drop. Through kindness and custom she offers a drink to a traveller and even to his camels, which rest near the well. Trustingly, she accepts the gold bracelets he offers, and they jingle on her wrists as she runs to tell her mother and brother, Laban, of the visitor. When this visitor explains his task is to find a wife for Abraham’s son, Isaac, Laban simply says, ‘Take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has directed’ (Genesis 24.51)...
