Nicodemus remembers

The Sanhedrin was very interested in him.
He had been rocking the boat – not good for our people.
We had enough to do keeping our faith strong and pure while at the mercy of an occupying army, without the activities of wonder workers and incendiary teachers.
So it was hardly surprising that most of my fellows viewed him with suspicion.
And when he started causing havoc in the Temple, suspicion quickly turned to outright hostility.
There were just one or two of us who wondered,
just wondered.
There was something about the way he cared so passionately about people and about God – not just about God’s Law, but about God.
And the things he did – they made me wonder,
just wonder.
It kept going round and round in my head; and in the end I knew I had to meet him face to face and ask him “who are you?”
