Ascension

The account of the ascension, when Jesus was taken into heaven, completes the reports of his life on earth. Jesus talked about going away so that God would send another helper, the Holy Spirit. It may be helpful to show the diagram of the church year to show the sweep of the year from Christmas through Lent to Easter and on, past Ascension to the celebration of Pentecost. If attendance at your group is sporadic, it is a good idea to reinforce the links between different Bible stories and aspects of Jesus' life and the experience of the early church. This session revises the life of Jesus from his birth, through his teaching and healing ministry, to his death and resurrection, before highlighting his reign in heaven at the right hand of God.

Session aim: To learn that Jesus went to heaven to reign as king.
